With Black and White Whisky becoming widely available in the USA, the Black Scottie and White Westie soon became famous, especially with the help of artist Morgan Dennis. Many of the posters depicted out-door sporting activities, golf being a popular theme.

This ad from an English publication in late 1937 is recycled in a 1938 ad appearing the USA's Esquire magazine.

This Esquire ad borrows from an earlier English ad, omitting the golf reference. For a while, the American ads tended to stress the "character" of the whisky, while the English ads focussed on "friends".
